Web browser share for B2B – a proxy

Earlier this week, Search Engine Journal wrote a blog that hypothesized about the eventual demise of Firefox browser. This share shift is almost exclusively coming at the hands of Chrome which I confess I have been using for the past year or so and like quite a bit (I used to use Firefox). Internet Explorer is also singled out as losing share but not as rapidly as Firefox.

The share numbers quoted are general, all purpose ones and my niche is B2B. I couldn’t find any share numbers for B2B so I took a look at my own browser stats as a somewhat representative B2B site with 90% U.S. users. Interesting findings. (more…)

Browser market share: Real life stats for a B2B site.

An area that I really pay a lot of attention to is the browser “share” on my site. I do this partly because I am curious but mostly to make sure that our site works for the dominant browsers and versions thereof. Plus, the numbers that I see on my site are more valuable to me than any generic industry stats.

It occurred to me today that because we get so much traffic to our site (and its growing fast), I could publish a point of view about browser market share that would be of interest to folks and also be statistically accurate. Specifically, what is the browser market share for my site. I’m happy to share. (more…)
