This morning I read two very interesting blogs about new or recent Google innovations.
The first was about the possibility of (unintended) negativity with Google Autocomplete. It has caused an Irish Hotel to take legal action against Google for understandable reasons.
The second was about a new feature with Google Images where one can upload an image and Google Images will search for similar looking images. Try testing it with a picture of yourself and you might be surprised and amused (or maybe not!).
This got me thinking about how many Google services I use.
I decided to list every Google service that I use (including ones that I use sparingly) and I’m surprised by how embedded I am with Google.
For personal use:
- Chrome browser
- Search – Web
- Search – Images
- Search – Blogs
- Search – Video
- Maps
- GMail
For business use, with exception of Gmail, all the above plus:
- Alerts
- Translation
- Reader
- Docs
- AdSense
- Adwords
- Analytics
- Webmaster
Frankly, looking at this list, it makes me a bit nervous about how dependent I’ve become for Google to help me live and work everyday. If push came to shove, I’m sure I could find comparable alternatives, but I have to say that I like all of them and use them constantly.
So for now, I’m sticking with what works for me until such time as someone feels the need to orchestrate an intervention for me.
Thanks for reading my blog and please visit again.
Vincent out.
